REPORT #1

Research Paper #1

Over one million children are home schooled in the United States. Many reasons of being home schooled is because of a disability to go to school, being expelled from school, on the road most of their life, or having no motivation to go to school. Some issues of staying home are reasonable and others are not suitable.
Everyone has their own opinion on the issue of home schooling. This issue is spoken about to children, teenagers, parents, even teachers. Many people think that certain children should be home schooled; on the other hand many people are against it.
There are many advantages for home schooled children. One reason for home schooled is that children are no longer peer pressured by their fellow peers. Another reason is that children have a better relationship with their parents and siblings because they are in the house all day. One other reason is that the children are going their own speed and have a better understanding the subject.
When an issue has advantages, they also have disadvantages. One disadvantage that home schooled children have is that the children do not develop any social skills because they only communicate with the people in their house, they will not be able to associate and meet with other children of the same age. Another disadvantage is the assumption that schools have enhanced books, and the teachers have an enhanced education than a parent does not have. The parent must be willing to go the extra mile and do the research if a question can not be answered on the spot.
There is also a financial reason to having the parents not go to work and staying home with their children. For many families this requires some financial alteration and the parent with the top salary continues to work and support the family. Most of the time this leads to fathers working and the mothers taking on the home schooling job. Many families see the cost of sending their children to catholic school or a private school all their life verses staying home and going to home school.
Many children can not stand school and hate it. Every morning having to wake up out of bed, then hopping on the yellow cheese bus and going to school. Many children dread this everyday and sometimes they just give up.
Home schooling is not just for exceptional students, athletes who are always on the road, or those winning national spelling bees. The good thing about home schooling is that it works to meet the requirements of the child verses the child determined to reconcile a large number of students with a large amount of needs per student.
Home schooling is also an outstanding choice for the students who are at risk of failing due to no motivation. This can result to the possibility of not finishing their education and a not-so-good future. While these children may have once enjoyed school they now find themselves frustrated and upset. Many signs identify a possible problem in students while they still have an opportunity to polish their education regardless of their situation, thoughts, feelings or conditions.
By identifying the signs of struggle, parents and teachers can make extra efforts to sustain and make it possible for these students to be successful, with a little push. A new point of view on these circumstances can often be the spark that turns the circumstances around. Many parents higher tutors to help their children in a specific subject and this helps a child a lot.
Should I home school my children? In my personal opinion I would never home school my children. I think my parents help me on my morals and values. My mother teaches me how to cook and my father teaches me the value of money. This is something that is not thought in school, it is something that I grew up with. My parents pushed me to go to school. There is an Italian saying, “Devi andare a scuola fincche non ti seecouro lei orecchi.“ This means, “You have to go to school until your ears fall off”. My parents tell me this every time I tell them I hate school. Well it is always my brothers who say it, but I say it when I do not feel like waking up to come to school.
I believe there are many teachers in school that will help out the children in need of help. I remember going to school and the teachers calling my home and telling my parents that I could do better and needed extra some help right away, after they saw my grades go down or lack of effort in my homework. My parents paid extra money for private tutors to help me be a better student, and it definitely helped.
The children who are in spelling bees or in the Olympics and have to be home schooled because they are on the road traveling, I am very happy for them, they also have an amazing talent and school is not a big issue for them. I also feel that they are smart enough to make a decision on knowing what is more important, going to school or pursuing their talent.
There are many advantages and disadvantages for keeping children home schooled. Everyone has there own reason and opinion on what is best for their children. Whether your child is gifted, talented, or just a normal child you decide what you want to do with your children, and I will decide what I will do with mine.
